Cozumel has a tempered climate all year round; the average air temperature is 80°F (27°C). On July and august the highs are around the 80's to 90's°F (32°C) and on December to January around Mid 70's°F (24°C). On the winter months cold fronts may create windy, cloudy and cooler weather. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, usually lasting for an hour. Water temperatures range from 77°-82°F (25°-28°C) throughout the year.

Transportation in Cozumel
By plane there are many domestic and international flights into Cozumel each day. There are daily flights from several Mexican cities including Merida, Playa del Carmen and Cancun. Continental Airlines flies non-stop daily from Houston and also Newark - Cozumel once a week.

US Airways from Charlotte to Cozumel, Saturdays and Sundays.
Also, every major tour operator offer direct charter flight from Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Toronto and Denver as well as from Dallas to Cozumel.

From Cancun Airport a shuttle bus runs directly to Playa del Carmen and back for catching a passengers ferry with continuous crossings all day (a 30 to 45 minutes trip) and a once-a-day passenger/vehicle ferry from Puerto Morelos. Automobiles In addition to car rentals (Standard-transmission Volkswagens and four-wheel drive vehicles are the norm), there are several alternatives for getting around Cozumel mopeds (for two people) and bicycles available at most locations that rent mopeds. Taxis are abundant on the island. They are not metered and it is advised that fares be negotiated before beginning any journey.

Cozumel ferries Cozumel Shuttle
Two passenger ferries travel between Cozumel's town pier and Playa Del Carmen. There are frequent discounted specials on the slower boats. Service is continuous from 4 a.m. to around 10 p.m., with departures normally leaving on the hour or half-hour. Your best bet is to check with the ticket stands located around the pier for exact times.

The only vehicle ferry servicing Cozumel leaves from the International pier (just south of La Ceiba Hotel) for Puerto Morelos. The trip lasts about two-and-a-half (2-1/2) hours. It leaves twice daily at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Scuba diving in Cozumel
Without a doubt, the best and most well known Cozumel attraction is the Great Mayan Reef Barrier 2nd largest in the world. One trip will not be enough to experience the more than 20 different dive sites such as Palancar, Santa Rosa, Colombia, etc.

For their dazzling variety and beauty, the reefs of Cozumel deserve their reputation as amongst the best in the world. Also contributing to their popularity is their access and availability year - round. The waters remains clear all four seasons and water temperature fluctuates from 25° to 28°C (77° to 82°F).

Most diving in Cozumel requires qualified, professional and competent guides. Almost all hotels offer special packages for divers. Members of the Cozumel Hotel Association recognize the demand for outstanding service coupled with the convenience of special dive packages for this set. Many of the hotels offer features such as two tank boat dives, dive masters, all equipment, meals, transportation, ocean view accommodations, etc.

There are 17 dive sites on the island: Paraiso Reef North, Cardona, Chankanaab, Beachcomber Cavern, Paraiso Reef South, Tormentos, Colombia, Yocab, El Paso del Cedral, Airplane Flats, Tunich, San Francisco, Santa Rosa, Punta Sur, Colombia Shallows, Palancar and Maracaibo
