Information about Huatulco, Mexico

Huatulco Mexico hotels Huatulco means "the place where wood is adored" in the Mixteca language. It is situated a little less than 300 kilometers from Oaxaca, the capitol of the state of Oaxaca, where the foothills of the Sierra Madre meet the waves of Mexico's Pacific. Originally a small beach and fishing village, Huatulco was carved out of the coffee jungles of southern Mexico, Today, Huatulco invites its visitors to explore the secret coves and hidden lagoons within its nine bays that are conceived for tranquility, rest and relaxation.

Huatulco has an average temperature of 28ºC (82ºF) and clear days nearly all year round, the nine bays have fine white sand and an unusual landscape that creates privacy and gives each one a distinct personality. Huatulco covers an area of 35 km by 7 km of spectacular landscape that allow you to commune with nature, particularly in the virtually unspoiled beaches of Chachacual, Cacaluta, El Organo and Conejos.

Main plaza at La Crucecita
This is a nice place to rest and relax, located in the center of La Crucecita town-neighbor. It has a Colonial flavor, mainly due to its gazebo, surrounded by trails and gardens. It also has a quarry fountain, streetlights, iron benches, and green gardens with ornamental plants, fruit trees and grass areas to play, rest and enjoy the peaceful environment.

Main Plaza at Santa Cruz
A nice place for walking and leisure with an interesting architecture. Located in Santa Cruz town-neighbor. Its Colonial design, as well as modern details, a gazebo, an outdoor theater where many activities and shows usually take place. It has two small plazas with cobblestone walks, streetlights, quarry fountains and gardens of big trees and shaded resting areas.

It is located in the main plaza of Bahia de Santa Cruz and has many stands that offer not just handicrafts from the State, but from other regions of the country as well.

Huatulco activities
Huatulco offers activities for every taste and age, from sailing across the nine bays to the majestic Golf Club and discotheques in Tangolunda Bay. Land tours on horseback or by dune buggy are available. Alternatively, you can go diving in coral reefs, water skiing or sailing, take a trip to the nearby coffee plantations in the sierra or taste the delicious local lobster.

Cycling in Huatulco
Bicycling in Huatulco is an unforgettable activity for the proximity to the flora and fauna on the trek. Be ready to see any kind of bird or animal. There is a bike tour that takes you to two towns: La Crucecita and Santa Cruz where you will see their points of interest.

Walking
You have two options: Huatulco’s National Park where you will find the great variety of flora and fauna or else by getting up early to watch one of the most breathtaking sunrises ever making a visit to Punta Celeste’s archeological site. The latter will take you to Rio Copalita’s overflow into the ocean where you may also watch migratory birds and a infinity of magnificent species.
